Saskatoon Transit has plans to improve over 20 bus stops in the next year. The “Bus Stop Blues” campaign is into its third year. Saskatoon Transit Director Jim McDonald says the idea began in 2015 during bus rides around the city when he noticed many stops that were simply poles stuck in the ground. McDonald points out they have used federal and provincial money to top up their funding and improved over 40 bus stops in the last two years. The transit boss says they want to hear about any locations that need work from city residents. McDonald says suggestions in the past have included addressing unsheltered transfer locations and bus stops that flood frequently. One 14th Street bus stop that was originally a pole in the ground has been enhanced with a shelter, adjoining sidewalks and a bench.Residents with suggestions can post their pictures on the City of Saskatoon Twitter or Facebook pages as well as Saskatoon Transit’s Twitter site. McDonald says they can also be dropped off in person at the transit service’s downtown terminal.
