Two championship teams will light up the skies of Saskatoon this weekend. The 2019 Nutrien Fireworks Festival will feature teams from the Philippines and Southern Ontario. Festival President Shad Ali says tonight’s (Fri’s) international performance by Platinum Fireworks will combine finesse with spectacular pyrotechnics while Garden City Ontario’s show on Saturday will rock it out. Activities at Rotary Park include the SGI family Fun Zone and Safety Fair with cultural happenings planned throughout the event. A Citizenship Ceremony is part of tonight’s (Fri’s) program and SaskExpress will perform songs from its summer musical called “Reel Music” which features songs from popular movies. Chinese drummers and dancers will help fill out the cultural bill on Saturday and there will be an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest chalk mural. The primary sites for the festival are River Landing, the Traffic Bridge and Rotary Park with activities starting at 5 p.m. The fireworks will get underway Friday and Saturday nights at about 9:30.
