Elmwood Residences Inc is a non-profit organization that has been around for 50 years in Saskatoon serving individuals with intellectual disabilities. In the fall of 1969 Kinsmen Manor opened with 38 residents that first year and now they serve around 120 people through a variety of programs, 11 community homes and Kinsmen Manor.
Executive Director, Rachael Steinke, says Elmwood provides a wide variety of living arrangements and support services. They receive funding for program delivery from the province, but that doesn’t include capital funding for buying vehicles, so that’s what they are fundraising for. Steinke explains they need an additional wheelchair accessible vehicle to add to their fleet of 12 used at all of their homes for transporting residents to health appointments, day programs, occupational and physical therapy, and social events.
