There are Early Learning Family Resource Centres popping up in Saskatchewan to offer supports to families during those crucial early years of development and growth.
A few years ago, centres were opened in Yorkton, Regina and Sandy Bay as a pilot project for the provincial government and last night (Wed) was the grand opening of the La Ronge Early Learning Family Resource Centre.
It’s the first of 7 funded through the Canada-Saskatchewan Early Learning and Childcare Agreement.
The others will be in Saskatoon, the Battlefords, Meadow Lake, Moose Jaw, Nipawin and Prince Albert.
Northern education advisor for the province, Thomas Sierzycki explains the goal of these centres is to provide a single location where families with young children can access reliable information, services and support.
For example, there will be pre-natal and breastfeeding programs, literacy programming and a welcoming place for the children to play.
