After over 36 years of performing, The Decades band will make their final performance at Danceland hall in Manitou Beach tonight (SAT).
The band features musicians from across six different decades, and have been the house band at Danceland since 2001.
Band member and co-owner of Danceland Millie Strueby explains the reason for winding down the group.
“There’s a few of us that are getting up in age and one of them is our trumpet player, who has been playing most of his life. A trumpet you have to keep up playing it to keep your lip in shape, so that’s quite a commitment, because you’re playing all the time, everyday.”
Strueby says The Decades are like a big family.
“We all enjoy playing, we get together about 6 times a year, right here at Danceland to play, and it’s been a nice ride for us, for 36 years.”
The final performance will start at 8, with the plan being to play until midnight.
