The annual general meeting of the Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board heard that the WCB remained fully funded last year, ending off the year at 115 per cent.
Board Chair, Gord Dobrowolsky added that there is more pressure on the WCB’s financial position this year because of the impact of COVID-19 on international, national and provincial economies, a decline in investment markets, and a decrease in employer payroll.
The numbers for workplace injuries for 2019 were also highlighted at the meeting.
The injury rate decreased to 4.95 per 100 workers, which was a 9 per cent drop.
21, 473 workers were injured at work in Saskatchewan last year and 36 people died.
Of those, 17 were from occupational disease, 7 were from traumatic events, 5 were heart attacks, 4 were vehicle accidents and 3 were from medical complications.
