The Saskatchewan RCMP held their first Youth Advisory Committee virtual meeting on Wednesday. The committee is made up of young people from across the province, they will be working with mentors to address youth crime and victim issues such as bullying, alcohol, rugs, vaping and poor driving. RCMP Inspector Tammy Patterson says, “The RCMP recognizes the important of listening to and working with youth to identify and address issues most important to them.” The committee can have as many as 100 youth between the ages of 12 and 17. Members are expected to volunteer a minimum of six hours a month for one school year participating in weekly meetings, monthly virtual meetings, and an annual camp, subject to COVID and funding restrictions.
Applications are still being accepted. Interested youth in the participating detachments of La Ronge, Pelican Narrows, La Loche, Melfort, Meadow Lake, North Battleford, Warman, Southey and Moosomin should contact their local detachment.
