Nutrien has announced that it’s President and Chief Executive Officer Chuck Magro is stepping down, effective immediately. A news release issued by the company says Magro is leaving his management and Board role at the company to pursue new opportunities.
Taking over as President and Chief Executive Officer is Mayo Schmidt while Russ Girling, the former President and CEO of TC Energy, has been named Chair of the Nutrien Board of Directors.
Mayo Schmidt’s name will resonate with farmers who remember him from his time at the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. With Chuck Magro’s resignation from the Board, the number of directors is being reduced from 12 to 11.
Nutrien produces and distributes 27 million tonnes of potash, nitrogen and phosphate products world-wide and employs 27,000 people.
Nutrien’s Annual Meeting of Shareholders is schedule for May 17, 2021.
