A guilty plea in an 11 year old cold case will hopefully give a Radisson area family some kind of closure. Eduard Viktorovit Baranec has now pleaded guilty to manslaughter and indignity to a human body in the death of a Saskatchewan teen who went missing in August of 2007. The 43 year old was originally charged with first degree murder in Katelyn Marie Noble’s death. Her body has never been found and at the time of Baranec’s arrest RCMP said she and Baranec knew each other.
In August of 2007, the fifteen year old from the Radisson area was reported missing. Eleven years later, the RCMP Saskatchewan Major Crimes Historical Case Unit North arrested Baranec in connection to the teen’s death. RCMP said that the investigation spanned the country from Ontario to British Columbia.
At the time of his Saskatchewan arrest, Baranec was in prison in B.C. serving a life sentence for the murder of Amanpreet Bahia, a mother of three from Surrey. B.C. media previously reported Baranec was hired as a hitman by Bahia’s husband, Baljinder Bahia who was also sentenced to life in prison with no parole for 25 years. Baranec’s sentencing hearing in Katelyn Noble’s death is set for September 24th.
