Shortly before 10:30 this morning the Saskatoon Fire Department was called out to a house fire in the 1200 block of 1st Avenue North. Fire fighters were greeted by flames at the rear of the home and dogs inside. While firefighters began extinguishing the blaze, another crew breached the front door to rescue the dogs. Utility services were shut down to the property and the fire was under control in under 15 minutes. Fire damage is estimated at $100,000. The property has been closed by the Saskatoon Fire Department due to fire damage and living conditions not being habitable. A ticket has been issued for failure to maintain smoke alarms. There were no injuries to occupants, firefighters or pets.
Update: The Saskatoon Fire Department is reporting that the fire investigation has concluded for the fire in the 1200 block of 1st Avenue North. Cause has been determined to be improper disposal of smoking material.
