The province has had an uptick of COVID-19 cases, which has the Saskatchewan Medical Association adding its voice to the call for mandatory vaccinations for all healthcare workers.
The concern is a fourth wave of the pandemic. SMA president, Dr. Eben Strydom, says the vaccines are safe and effective and they are the path out of the pandemic. He suggests healthcare workers have a professional obligation and responsibility to keep patients safe.
Dr. Strydom says, “With the highly contagious Delta variant circulating through the province, we need to do everything possible to ensure healthcare workers are fully vaccinated.” The Canadian Medical Association and the Canadian Nurses Association called for mandatory vaccinations last week.
Saskatchewan physicians are also concerned about the loosening of restrictions and their advice is to continue to practice the public health measures we have had since the beginning. The SMA encourages everyone to wear masks in indoor public spaces, maintain regular hand washing and hygiene, continue to physical distance when possible, and stay home and get tested if you get sick.
