The basic design of the new Arena and Event Centre in Prince Albert has been finalized.
At this week’s council meeting it was decided to go with the horseshoe design for the arena as opposed to circular or oval.
It’s the design where the most seats are as close as possible to the sport floor and the seating is good for concerts because of the amphitheatre shape.
There is also minimal seat loss for end stage concerts, and the roof design is the most cost effective.
Mayor Greg Dionne says, “It’s by far the most popular design for similar facilities.”
He says the next step is the schematic design which will include a little more detail about the layout of the facility.
When it’s all done, it will include two 68-thousand square foot hockey rinks, a 47-thousand square foot aquatic centre, an entertainment centre and possibly possibly other development opportunities including a convention centre or a branch library.
