Calls from Medical Health Officers from across Canada on a lack of COVID-19 restrictions in Saskatchewan were the source of much debate in Question Period today. NDP Leader Ryan Meili accused the Premier of not acting quick enough to get the fourth wave of the pandemic under control, saying people died due to inaction from the government.
While gathering limits have not been put in place at this time, Premier Scott Moe says about 85 percent of the eligible population have received their first dose, so those limits would only work when restricted to the unvaccinated population. He adds that there is some discussion about restrictions, if the trajectory of COVID-19 changes. Right now, he says the province is down 52 per cent on the seven day case load and 50 per cent for active cases. Moe says if the trend starts to show an increase in cases, consultations with the Chief Medical Health Officer would take place on more public health orders.
Opposition Leader Ryan Meili believes the Premier has not listened to recommendations from Dr, Saqib Shahab because his advice hasn’t been followed. The NDP would like all of Dr. Shahab’s recommendations publicly released. (CKRM)
