A man charged in connection to the Tiki Laverdiere homicide investigation was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty to accessory after the fact to murder.
Samuel Takakenew, age 37 years, was sentenced in North Battleford Court of Queen’s bench to 12 months in custody, time served.
He is also subject to a DNA order and a lifetime firearms ban.
Tiki Laverdiere’s body was found in a rural area outside of North Battleford in July, 2019. She attended a funeral for 20 year old Tristen Cook-Buckle of the Thunderchild First Nation in April of that year and the Edmonton woman was reported missing in May, 2019.
Samuel Takakenew now makes it four of the ten people charged in the case who has been sentenced.
The court ordered a publication ban on all details of the case until other accused individuals have been dealt with by the court.
One of the ten people charged in the investigation into the death of 25 year old Tiki Laverdiere has been found guilty of first degree murder. Nikita Cook’s charge of kidnapping was stayed. It was a judge-only trial. Cook is sentenced to life in prison and won’t be eligible for parole for 25 years.
Brent Checkosis and Mavis Takakenew pled guilty to accessory after the fact to murder and Charles St. Savard pled guilty to kidnapping.
Six others, Nicole Cook, Soaring Eagle Whitstone, Shayla Orthner, Danita Thomas and Jesse Sangster have been charged with first degree murder, improperly interfering with a body and kidnapping.
