The protest in downtown Ottawa against COVID-19 vaccine mandates and other public health orders enters its 10th day. During a special Police Services Board meeting yesterday (sat), Ottawa’s police chief said the force doesn’t have enough resources to address the on-going situation in the city’s core. Police estimate an additional one thousand trucks along with five thousand people made their way to downtown Ottawa Saturday to join in on the protest. The were also hundreds of people at Ottawa City Hall for a counter protest according to Ottawa media. The Police Board has approved an additional 257 RCMP officers to help with the on-going protest along with more officers from the Ontario Provincial Police and other cities including Toronto, London and Sudbury. So far 70 traffic violations have been issued during the protest according to Ottawa Police. Several roads remain closed to the downtown today (sun).
Two protests took place in Regina yesterday. One organized by the provincial Liberal Party to protest Scott Moe’s handling of the pandemic. The other saw a convoy show up to the Legislative Building with some planning to stay on the grounds until all mandates were lifted. Traffic became quite congested along Albert Street yesterday afternoon as the convoy made its way through the area.
