Two truck/trailer rigs featuring Mekayla Bali from Yorkton who was reported missing in April of 2016, are traveling across North America, in hopes of generating leads. It’s called the Homeward Bound program where Kam-Way Transportation and Washington State Patrol’s Missing and Unidentified Persons Unit place age-advanced pictures of missing children on semis.
Washington State Patrol and the Saskatchewan RCMP are collaborating on the efforts to locate Mekayla, who was 16 years old when she was last seen in Yorkton on April 12th of 2016. Corporal Robert Head of the Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit, says, “About 800 tips from all over the world have been reported to police in relation to our investigation into Mekayla’s disappearance, including tips and information reported from Washington.” He adds that all it takes is one key piece of information that will help push this investigation forward, to find Mekayla.
The Homeward Bound program began in 2005 and has featured 32 missing children and youth, three of whom have since been recovered. It’s not known what role the program played in their recovery, but organizers say any and all increased exposure of missing persons cases is important.
