This is Fire Prevention week in Canada. In preparation, the Saskatoon Fire Department held multiple open houses throughout the month of September.
The Prince Albert Fire Department also hosted an open house this past Saturday to kick off the week.
This is the 100th anniversary of Fire Prevention Week and the theme this year is “Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape.”
Lorraine Carlie with the National Fire Protection Association says today’s homes burn faster than ever and residents may have as little as two minutes to safely escape a home from the time the smoke alarm sounds.
The Saskatchewan Prevention Institute suggests developing a home fire escape plan and practicing it regularly. As well, installing smoke alarms inside very sleeping room, outside each separate sleeping area and on every level of the home. They should also be interconnected so when one sounds, they all sound.
