The Government of Canada has announced an investment of $100-million to support BHP’s Jansen potash mine about 140 kilometres east of Saskatoon. The $7.5-billion project is expected to generate the lowest direct emissions of any potash mine in the world. Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, Marie-Claude Bibeau, says, “Countries around the world look to Canada as a trusted partner for fertilizer. By investing in this low-emissions potash mine, Canada is improving the availability of this essential input to agricultural production that contributes to global food security, and it is doing so in a sustainable manner.”
