The Sask Party MLA for Regina Coronation Park has announced he will be resigning his seat in the Legislative Assembly on Friday. Mark Docherty was first elected in 2011 and then re-elected in 2016 and 2020. He served as Minister of Parks, Culture and Sport from 2014 to 16 and was Speaker of the Legislative Assembly from 2018 to 2020. Docherty says he looks forward to serving and building community in new ways in the future. Premier Scott Moe thanks Docherty for his service and says, “I will miss the passion and compassion Mark brings to our caucus discussions.”
A byelection will be held within the next six months to elect a new MLA. Leader of the provincial NDP, Carla Beck, thanks Docherty for his service and looks forward to connecting with Docherty’s constituents in the byelection.
