Gordon Norman Roberts died in the line of duty while responding to an emergency call in Grandmother’s Bay on Sunday.
The Prince Albert Grand Council and the La Ronge Fire Department have lowered their flags at half-mast in memory of the 67-year-old Roberts.
“He was not only a dedicated firefighter but also a good friend to many,” said Grand Chief Brian Hardlotte of the Prince Albert Grand Council. “He was a great role model for the Lac La Ronge Indian Band.”
Roberts served as a school maintenance worker, director of public works and the fire chief for Stanley Mission and Grandmother’s Bay.
A wake service will be held at 5pm on Thursday in Stanley Mission. His funeral will begin at 1pm the following day at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Stanley Mission.
