Saskatoon Transit will have its first two permanent battery-electric buses in their fleet sometime next year after signing a contract with Nova Bus.
This is the first step in electrifying Saskatoon Transit’s bus fleet and will be the first battery-electric buses in Saskatchewan.
The Nova LFSe-plus coaches can travel more than 300 kilometres on a single charge, which will save Saskatoon Transit about $44,000 in fuel costs per bus per year and will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 60 tonnes per bus annually.
This $2.7 million purchase was approved by City Council in December, 2021 and is a critical step towards achieving climate targets outlined in the City of Saskatoon’s Low Emissions Community Plan and Climate Action Plan.
