Last Friday the 21st, Pierceland RCMP were told that human remains had been discovered at the Big Island Lake Cree Nation Landfill. The Pierceland Detachment secured the remains and the RCMP Major Crimes Unit did an extensive search of the area, with negative results.
There was a forensic autopsy on Monday, which has eliminated any recent missing persons from the area, so the Historical Case Unit has now taken over the investigation. Along with the HCU, the Missing Person Coordinator, Saskatchewan Coroners Service, Pierceland RCMP, the Big Island Lake Cree Nation, the National Center for Missing Persons and Human remains will continue to investigate to determine the identity of the remains. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police.
