The 2023 War Amps Key Tag mailing process has begun in Saskatchewan. The program is free and has returned over 1.5 million sets of keys to their owners since the program began in 1946.
Annae Jones, a Regional Representative for the War Amputations of Canada, says although the key tag program is free, donations from Canadians help provide war amputee veterans and people who’ve lost limbs with both emotional and financial support. She herself was born without arms, and the key tag program allowed her to be a part of the War Amps Child Amputee Program.
She says because of the program, she was able to view adults in the same situation as her and realize that she had a very bright future ahead.
Jones says there are some misconceptions when it comes to what the organization does, and who it supports. She says War Amps does more than provide for those injured in World War one or two. They also support veterans of wars that happened since, and Canadians who are dealing with limb loss.
She finds that the program has also eliminated a lot of discrimination against those with disabilities and limb loss and gives them a way to regain confidence and a positive outlook on life. Anyone wanting to register can do so at war amps. ca.
