If you have ever thought of riding your bike to work and you live in Saskatoon, this is the week to give it a try. Today (Mon) is the first day of BYXE Week, which is organized by the City of Saskatoon in partnership with Saskatoon Cycles to promote cycling as a regular form of transportation.
Active Transportation Program Manager with the City, Danae Balogun suggests that cycling is a convenient and low-cost form of transportation. She says it benefits your physical and mental health and it benefits the city by decreasing traffic congestion, and noise and air pollution. It will also save you gas money.
Balogun says there are events throughout the week including a cycling scavenger hunt, a tutu ride, The Great Saskatoon Bike Passport Adventure, and Thursday is Bike to Work Day with commuter stations where refreshments and snacks will be served during the morning and afternoon commutes. If you live too far away, Balogun advises taking the bus part of the way, because all buses are equipped with front bike racks.
