A youth has been charged in connection with a suspicious death approximately 20 kilometres south of Stockholm and Esterhazy.
On February 10th, RCMP were called to a home, where three males broke in and stole electronics, firearms, a significant amount of ammunition, and the home owner’s vehicle which was later found burned a short distance away.
Upon arrival, officers found a 34 year old man from the RM of Fertile Belt who was dead and an injured woman who was sent to hospital.
A 17-year-old male from a community in north-central Manitoba was arrested and he faces several charges including First Degree Murder, Attempted Murder and Robbery with a Firearm.
He will appear in Yorkton Provincial Court, today.
Since February 10, Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes says it has conducted an extensive investigation, which has included conducting ground searches for evidence, interviewing witnesses, obtaining relevant surveillance video, and collecting and analyzing forensic evidence. Investigators are working with a number of specialized RCMP units and services, including Behavioural Sciences, F Division’s Truth Verification Section, the National Sex Offender Registry and the Violent Crime Linkage Analysis System.
Any potential connection, or lack thereof, between the accused and the victims is part of the ongoing investigation and police are not commenting on it nor on the motive for the attack.
Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes continues to ask the public to report all information about this incident, including the potential identity of the individuals depicted in the sketches. The RCMP also says, due to the ongoing investigation, it is unable to comment on whether the suspect arrested is or is not depicted in previously released suspect sketches.
