Serial killer Paul Bernardo was transferred from a maximum to medium security prison and Leader of the Conservative Party believes the Public Safety Minister should step down or be fired for this. Pierre Poilievre says Minister Marco Mendicino lied about not knowing that Bernardo had been transferred. Mendicino has said he didn’t know and he was shocked when he found out. Poilievre says there were at least two emails from Corrections Services informing him of this move. Mendicino later said his staff knew but he hadn’t been informed.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told reporters this morning he understands how extraordinarily difficult the news about Paul Bernardo must have been for the families and loved ones of his victims. “The Minister has been reaching out directly to Corrections Canada to ask some very, very clear and pertinent questions on how this happened, what we can share with Canadians and what we can do to make sure the system is working properly.”

Poilievre says if Mendicino doesn’t resign, Trudeau should fire him because there have been too many lies.
