Workdays for many people may include looking at emails, attending some meetings, for others it’s seeding a crop and for others, it could include catching a relocating some bears. The Saskatchewan Association of Conservation Officers says that’s what La Ronge officers did recently.
A Facebook post says a black bear and her two cubs had been causing some havoc in La Ronge and had become a safety risk. The mother bear was trapped first and then with a lot of perseverance, the two young cubs were also caught and safelty relocated and released about 80 kilometres away from the community.
Bears can occasionally wander into communities or campgrounds, so the Association of Conservation officers advises to keep things like pet food, garbage and even your empty pop cans out of reach and clean your barbecue. The more used to human food a bear becomes, the post says, the less chance that relocation becomes a viable option.
