HMCS Fredericton has returned to its home port of Halifax after a successful six-month deployment in Canada’s largest current military operation called Operation REASSURANCE, which has been ongoing since 2014, following Russia’s invasion of Crimea.
Along with continual naval presence in European waters, Operation REASSURANCE includes military presence, including Canadian participation, for areas most likely to be attacked and a Tactical Air Lift Detachment in Scotland.
His Majesty’s Canadian Ships Shawinigan and Summerside are now replacing HMCS Fredericton and will be operating as part of a NATO Mine Countermeasures Group to be a presence in Northern Europe and monitor ship traffic.
