Six people have died after an aircraft coming from Rocky View County in Alberta crashed before arriving at its destination in Salmon Arm, B.C.
Saturday at 1:00 a.m., the Cochrane and Canmore RCMP were notified of an overdue aircraft that had departed from Springbank Airport the day prior at 8:47 p.m.
A Winnipeg-based Royal Canadian Air Force CC-130H Hercules was tasked with conducting the search and found the aircraft on Mount Bogart. Officers say the group was on their way to a church function when the crash occurred.
The Hercules crew and Alberta Parks Mountain Rescue program responders determined there were no survivors. Alberta RCMP and The Canadian Armed Forces extends condolences to the families and friends of those aboard the aircraft. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada are now taking lead on this investigation. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
