The First Vice Chief of the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations has officially announced running for National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations. Vice Chief David Pratt is the first to declare his intention to run. He is from Moscowpetung First Nation, near Fort Qu’Appelle, and has served two terms on the FSIN Executive.
In a non-confidence motion in June, RoseAnne Archibald was voted out as National Chief. The election will be held December 5th through 7th in Ottawa during a Special Chiefs Assembly.
Two First Nations leaders from Saskatchewan have previously held the position of National Chief – David Ahenakew from 1982 to 1985 and Perry Bellegarde from 2014 to 2021.
