RECAP FOR SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 17TH, 2023

HUSKIES FOOTBALL RECAP:
It was a beautiful evening at Griffiths Stadium played underneath the lights, but unfortunately the Alberta Golden Bears came to the bridge city with one goal in mind. That would be ending the Huskies 5-year Home Winning Streak that has accumulated 19 victories at Griffiths Stadium. Alberta jumped ahead with a 20-0 lead and causing problems for the Huskies offence. The defense got them back into the game however with a pick-six, sparking the offence and getting them back within 6 points, but it wasn’t enough as Alberta walked away with a 26-22 victory

HUSKIES WOMEN’S SOCCER RECAP:
The Huskies continued their hot start to the season Saturday afternoon against the Thompson Rivers WolfPack thanks to a 2-1 victory and improving their record to 4-1-0 on the season. It was a very defensive game with the first goal of the game coming early in the second half from Nammi Nguyen, her first of the season. But like clockwork with the game tied late in the game, Hailey Weber fired home another game winning goal to lift her team to victory over Thompson Rivers.
Sunday afternoon was a bit of a different story however. Performance wise it wasn’t a bad game for the Huskies, but UBCO is a team that will capitalize on mistakes made by their opponent, and the Huskies became a victim of just that. Saskatchewan registered more shots and shots on goal, but that didn’t stop Stefanie Young from netting a hat-trick for the Heat, as Alyssa D’Agnone had 2 goals for the Huskies. It wasn’t enough unfortunately with the Huskies losing their first game at home this season 3-2.

HUSKIES MEN’S SOCCER RECAP:
The Huskies Men’s Soccer team can chalk up this weekend as a successful one, starting on Saturday afternoon against the UBCO Heat where they finally picked up their first win of the season with a 2-0 victory at Griffiths Stadium. Diego Reveco and Rajesh Rodney were the goal scorers and Jaron Slopinski stopped the only shot he faced all afternoon.
Fast-forward to Sunday afternoon and even though the Huskies didn’t pick up a victory, they had another dominant performance, this time against the Victoria Vikes. The game resulted in a 1-1 tie with Saskatchewan getting 14 shots compared to Victoria’s 9 but both teams had 6 shots on goal. Ethan Cabral was the lone goal scorer for the Huskies getting his third of the season. Victoria would answer back shortly after to tie the game where the score would remain the same until the final whistle.
