A bridge connecting the Village of Air Ronge, Lac La Ronge Indian Band and the Town of La Ronge on Highway 2 has been declared as Reconciliation Bridge
A new sign was unveiled at a ceremony on Saturday, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
In a news release, Northern Village of Air Ronge Mayor Julie Baschuk says the bridge was chosen to be renamed because it provides access to services, enables transport of necessities to Northern communities and supports the natural resources industries that are heavily relied on.
The release says that in the coming years, a second bridge will be added to the crossing, doubling the capacity in an effort to move people and goods through the area. New lighted pathways will be added as well for people travelling on foot and bikes.
