Representatives from the Village of Richmound in the southwest corner of the province are meeting with the Premier and the Justice Ministry on Friday to discuss options after the self-appointed “Queen of Canada” and her supporters moved into town and it’s alleged there have been threatening letters sent to some local residents.
Romana Didulo is described as a Canadian far-right conspiracy theorist and cult leader, and one of the most prominent figures of the QAnon movement in this country. On September 24th, local residents protested Didulo’s presence, and it’s believed that’s why the alleged threats were sent. Didulo and her supporters are living in a closed school in the community.
Premier Scott Moe confirmed today (Wed) there would be a meeting on Friday, but he isn’t aware of any of the details about what has been happening. However, he believes that meeting with justice officials is the right way to go for Richmound residents.
He suggests that things have changed so much in the last few years, and some people have extreme opinions, which is everyone’s right. “I think we all do well, including this group, to just be a little bit more understanding of, in this case, people that live in the community and ultimately the views that, for each of us to be a little more understanding of each of the views that we have.”
If there were to be further escalation, Moe stated that the government would not step in, because that is for law enforcement. He expects at the meeting on Friday, Richmound officials will receive advice and options to protect their community, which the government supports. Didulo and her supporters were escorted out of Kamsack by local residents in September and then moved to Richmound.
