It looked like a completely different team on the ice for the MacEwan Griffins tonight after the Huskies handed them a 6-2 loss last night. The Huskies had another solid performance but had their hands full this time around from a solid push back from the Griffins on the heels of a fantastic performance in net from Thomas Davis.

On top of it being a great game with back-and-forth game, both goalies put on a clinic in their respective nets. Roddy Ross took over the net after a solid performance from Jordan Kooy last night for the Huskies, and Thomas Davis replaced Ashton Abel for the Griffins. Both goalies were strong in the first period with a steady first 10 minutes followed by a dominant finish to the period for the Huskies finishing with 12 shots on goal while MacEwan only registered 4.
The Dogs picked up where they left off in the second period. Even after a Shane Collins hooking minor, the Huskies continued to apply the pressure short-handed, and Justin Ball found the back of the net extending his goal streak to three games. Saskatchewan would kill of the penalty, but their 1-0 lead wouldn’t last long as Ethan Strang turned on the wheels to blow past both Huskie defenders and fired a shot over the glove of Roddy Ross to tie the game 1-1. After a dominant start from the Huskies, MacEwan picked up their game and began applying pressure of their own, catching the Huskies on their heels for a few shifts, and even outshot Saskatchewan 10-7 in the second period.
The third period was a copy-paste of the second period with more quality scoring chances coming from both Saskatchewan and MacEwan, but Roddy Ross stood tall in his crease turning away all shots while Thomas Davis looked unbeatable at the other end of the ice completely shutting the door after his short-handed goal against. Both teams couldn’t find the back of the net by the end of regulation.
Overtime didn’t solve anything either, but the action didn’t disappear with both teams having quality chances to end it once again, but both goalies continued to put on a clinic with Roddy Ross turning aside 23 of 24 shots and Thomas Davis stopped 32 of 33 shots on night.
Both goalies remained excellent in the shootout with MacEwan coming close to grabbing the victory thanks to Vincent Scott having his shot pop over Roddy Ross, but quick reflexes from Ross pulled the puck off the goal line to extend the shootout. Finally, Carter Stebbings slid in on the left side and found an opening under the glove of Davis with a little help of the post giving the Huskies a thrilling 2-1 victory to improve their record to 4-and-0 on the season.
