A Richmound man has been charged with assault following an altercation between two men last Saturday.
Friday night, RCMP sent an advisory indicating they were setting up a mobile detachment in the village on Saturday, after receiving complaints including violent threats allegedly connected to supporters of Romana Didulo, who has dubbed herself the “queen of Canada.”
According to a news release from Saskatchewan RCMP, one man assaulted another man, but no injuries were reported.
Fifty-nine-year-old Ricky Manz from Richmound is charged with one count, assault and is scheduled to appear in court in Leader on Nov. 16. According to swiftcurrentonline.com, Manz invited Didulo and her ‘Kingdom of Canada’ group to stay at the former Richmound School building. Manz is the reported owner of the property and has been hosting them since they arrived over a month ago.
RCMP say they have received a number of calls for service related to the group’s presence including an assault, of threats and of suspicious persons and all, RCMP say, are under active investigation. Didulo and her supporters were forced out of Kamsack, by members of the community, in early September.
Richmound is just under an hour northwest of Maple Creek about 20 kilometres from the Alberta border.
