The provincial government has signed a five-year lease extension for the Lloydminster Provincial Court, providing stability and continuity for residents in the area.
A news release from the province says after 35 years as a permanent provincial court, the Lloydminster courthouse was transitioned to a circuit point location in 2021, but then after hearing concerns, the government announced last fall that Lloydminster Provincial Court would reopen.
It became fully operational again on February 1st of this year with over 15,000 video and in-person appearances since then.
Lloydminster’s Mayor, Gerald Aalbers, says, “Having a regional courthouse is vital to ensure access to justice for all members of our community, and we’re pleased to hear that it will remain open for at least the next five years and many years to come.”
