With snow and colder temperatures this week, the Saskatoon Emergency Management Organization has activated the Extreme Cold Weather Emergency Response Plan, which continues through Sunday.
Through the plan, over 35 community partners collaborate to ensure everyone has access to a safe location during extreme cold or other sever weather. Services are provided through emergency overnight shelters, warm-up locations, outreach services such as wellness checks and connecting people to available resources, and handing out toques, mitts, jackets and blankets. Anyone experiencing homelessness can visit any of the designated warm-up locations in the city.
The advice for residents from the EMO is to help those most vulnerable by sharing the warm-up locations poster, checking on family, friends and neighbours, and by alerting emergency services if you see someone in distress due to the cold.
