HUSKIES MEN’S HOCKEY RECAP:
The Huskies have a few rivals in Canada West, but among the top are the Alberta Golden Bears and both games this weekend did not disappoint. Friday night Saskatchewan jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead thanks to Raphael Pelletier and Vince Loschiavo. Alberta would get one back with the chance to get multiple thanks to a 5-minute major, but it was Carter Stebbings netting a short-handed goal for the Huskies. An empty netter from Justin Ball would ice the game 4-2 for the Huskies with Saturday offering a much different contest. Connor McClennon opened the scoring early with his first for the Golden Bears with a tying goal from Justin Ball not coming until the third period. Regulation would not be enough, but into overtime on a 4-on-3 power-play Alberta’s Eric Florchuk tapped in the game-winner giving Alberta a weekend series split. Saskatchewan hits the road next weekend to battle the Mount Royal Cougars.
