The Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre and Canpotex have partnered on a new fundraising campaign to highlight the issue of child hunger. Executive Director of the Food Bank & Learning Centre, Laurie O’Connor says last June Canpotex committed $450,00 over three years through the Canpotex Food for Kids initiative with the focus on providing nutrition for infants and children in Saskatoon. The brand new ‘First Bites’ campaign for February is part of that.
Canpotex, one of the largest suppliers of potash overseas to help the world grow more food, will match all donations this month up to $50,000. O’Connor points out that 41 per cent of those they serve through the Emergency Hamper Program are children. She says, “We know in this province we have a very stubborn child poverty issue. This is just one way that folks can help to combat that.” Monetary donations and baby food, such as purees and cereals are welcomed.
