The Official Opposition Critic for Ethics and Democracy believes Saskatchewan residents deserve answers about why two out of three hotels the Ministry of Social Services uses in Regina are linked to Sask Party MLA Gary Grewal. He is an investor with the Thriftlodge and he owns the Sunrise Motel. The Coachman Inn Motel is also used in Regina but has no connection to Grewal.
The online rate for ThriftlodgeRegina is $90 a night but Conway says the Ministry paid on average $185 a night. The Sunrise Motel rate is $99 a night, but the Ministry’s bill was $162 a night. The motel not owned by Grewal charges $94 a night, but through the ministry, it was $128 a night.
As you can see below, the three Saskatoon hotels are more in line and in two cases, lower than the going rate.
