A man who ran over an RCMP officer near Wolseley has been sentenced to 18 years in prison.
Alphonse Traverse of Winnipeg pled guilty last year to manslaughter in the death of Constable Shelby Patton.
The 26-year-old officer pulled over a suspected stolen truck nearly Wolseley in June 2021. After Constable Patton asked Traverse to step out of the truck, he sped way with Constable Patton on the truck’s running board. The RCMP officer attempted to reach inside for the keys, but fell when the truck jerked and was run over by a rear tire.
An agreed statement of facts said Traverse was on warrant status at the time for various offences. Court heard Traverse and his passenger had been using crystal meth.
