The total fire ban will go into effect at 9am Friday morning and does not allow for any open flame fires to be lit until the ban is lifted.

The ban includes fire pits, burning barrels, controlled burns and fireworks. The only exceptions are internal household fireplace and gas-fueled equipment, such as a propane barbecue or propane fire pit.

A controlled burn that got away earlier this week southeast of the city earlier this week may have been a factor in the decision.
