The City of Prince Albert in collaboration with the YWCA is looking for a location for a permanent emergency shelter.
Property owners with suitable buildings or land are asked to come forward, to see if their site meets the criteria. A news release from the City of Prince Albert says the ideal properly should consist of buildings with a minimum of 9,000 square feet, enough outdoor space for a fenced seating area and a minimum of ten parking stalls. Alternatively, serviced land capable of accommodating these requirements will also be considered.
The province has committed funding to establish the 24/7 shelter, including three meals a day, case planning and access to wrap-around supports. The Prince Albert YWCA’s CEO, Donna Brooks, says they aren’t looking for a shelter next to a school or in a densely populations, but she believes some locations will benefit from the extra security brought by the shelter, staff presence and amenities, such as washrooms. She emphasizes they are committed to ensuring the surrounding areas a well maintained daily.
Property owners interested in contributing to this initiative are encouraged to contact Anna Dinsdale at adinsdale@citypa.com or Donna Brooks at donnabrooks@ywcaprincealbert.ca for further information.
