The annual Jane’s Walks returned Thursday night and run through Sunday in Saskatoon with themes like pollinator gardens in Buena Vista, Saskatoon’s poker resorts and how the city shut them down and exploring the Small Swale – Saskatoon’s hidden ecological gem. The walks are free and a tour guide will fill you in at each walk. Chair of the local Jane’s Walk Festival, Murray Gross, says there are 20 walks this year.
He explains that Jane’s Walks celebrate the legacy of the urbanist, Jane Jacobs, who believed in a walkable city, rather than urban planners designing a more car-centered approach. He says, “In over 500 cities there are 5,000 walks taking place and in Saskatoon we have 20 walks.” Gross adds that you don’t have to register ahead of the walk, just show up at the meeting point ahead of the tour.
