After being located south of Saskatoon on Clarence Avenue for roughly 30 years, the Saskatoon SPCA has officially moved to their new location in the north end. Saskatoon SPCA Executive Director Fred Dyck says the new building checked all his boxes; the main two being location and size. “We’ve got about 8000 square feet here. Six-thousands of that is dedicated directly to the sheltering of animals. We can host about 80 animals in the building at full absolute capacity.”
He adds that the facility has a rear intake door, four HVAC systems, and epoxy floors, all of which make the everyday operations at the SPCA significantly easier. The extra space provides room for some new endeavors, as well. “We are going to introduce some programs that are a little bit more community based that were difficult being outside of the city for us to offer. The main initiative this year is our dog behavioral classes.”
The public is invited to attend the grand opening event Saturday at 2250 Hanselman Avenue between noon and 4pm. “(It’s an) opportunity for people to see the building, come and talk to us about what we’re trying to do and our vision, and just a way to say thank you to our community, Dyck says.” There will be food trucks, vendors, a bouncy castle, and animals to visit.
