Women and their children escaping violence will soon benefit from new affordable rental units in Meadow Lake.
The construction of a second-stage fourplex was announced on Friday. A release from the province says the second stage housing provides safe, affordable, longer-term support for women and their children to break the cycle of violence and help them rebuild their lives.
The province says clients will also receive counselling, connections to education and employment and programs for their children.
The new fourplex will include four three-bedroom affordable rental units. Three units will be rented to families, and one will be rented by the room to three individuals. Support services will be provided to residents by several community-based organizations including Meadow Lake Tribal Council.
Funding for the project comes predominantly from the Canada-Saskatchewan Bi-lateral Agreement under the National Housing Strategy, with the remainder coming from the Meadow Lake Tribal Council. Construction is slated to be complete in spring 2025.
