Twenty-seven new nurse practitioner positions are now available in rural and remote areas, and applications are being accepted until June 10th.
The province announced $4.5 million in this year’s budget to fund the positions which aim to increase access to primary care in underserved areas.
NPs are registered nurses that can provide many of the same services as family physicians, such as advanced assessments, diagnosis, treatment of acute and chronic illness, ordering tests, admitting and discharging patients, prescribing medications, and performing medical procedures and providing referrals to specialist services.
Positions will be available in communities such as Biggar, Yorkton, Melville, Lloydminster, North Battleford, and Maple Creek, among many others.
