Greg Fertuck was in Saskatoon Court of King’s Bench today (Mon) to ask that a mistrial be declared and that his first-degree murder trial be reopened to hear more evidence. Justice Richard Danyliuk stated he would make his decision in the next 48 hours and there would be no court appearance for that decision. At this point, pending the decisions from these two items, Fertuck is expected to be back in court on Friday morning for the judge’s decision on his trial.
This is a trial that has had numerous delays. Fertuck is charged with first-degree murder and indignity to a body in the death of his estranged wife, Sheree Fertuck. She was reported missing in December of 2015, then her truck with personal items inside were found at a gravel pit where she worked, near Kenaston.
Fertuck was charged in June of 2019 and originally his trial was to begin in March of 2021. There were delays because of a pandemic, a voir dire on whether evidence around a Mr. Big sting should be accepted and Fertuck deciding mid-trial to defend himself. Then, most recently, with the request for a mistrial and for the trial to be reopened for more evidence to be entered around the gun that was found.
