The City of Saskatoon has its flags at all facilities flying at half-mast today, the National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism (June 23rd).
The date marks the anniversary of the Air India Flight 182 bombing, which happened off the coast of Ireland in 1985.
The flight was en route from Toronto to London, England.
The bomb killed all 329 aboard, most of them Canadians, and to this day is still the worst terrorist attack in Canadian history.
The City says in a news release, flags across Canada are flown at half-mast to honour the victims of the Air India bombing, and all Canadian victims whose lives have been taken by other acts of terrorism.
A statement from Federal Policing RCMP says deepest sympathies are extended to the families of the victims. “The impacts of the greatest terror-related loss of life involving and affecting Canadians in our country’s history have not diminished with time.”
The statement also notes that the Air India investigation is the longest and one of the most complex domestic terrorism investigations the RCMP has undertaken, and those efforts remain active and ongoing.
