Some people may be quoting the old saying, “Rain rainy go away. Come again another day.” Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for much of south central Saskatchewan with 40-60 millimetres expected and with higher localized amounts of up to 80 millimetres (just over 3 inches). Meteorologist Stephen Berg says the weather system begins in the southwest and will head northeast, from around Empress in the south near the Alberta border to past Wynyard around Rose Valley.
This area, including Saskatoon, can expect rain from this afternoon (Thurs) through to and including tomorrow afternoon, and then it will dissipate. Along with the rain, Berg says there could be some thunder and lightning, and it will be windy, with gusts up to 80 kilometres per hour. He cautions that with this heavy rain, there could be localized flooding in low-lying areas. Berg advises to watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts and drive to the conditions of the road. His advice for during a thunderstorm is, “When the thunder roars stay indoors.”
After the rain though, it will clear off and there will be a few days of sunshine. Berg expects the rain should begin to clear out by tomorrow afternoon, and then generally it will stay clear until Sunday night, with more unsettled conditions on the way for the beginning of next week, including Canada Day, with the possibility of showers and thunderstorms in the forecast.
